What is OLED and what are the benefits?

BMW 3-series Sixth generation (F30/F31/F34/F35; 2011–2019)

The F30/F31/F35 models have been offered in various body styles, including sedan, coupe, convertible, station wagon, and a 5-door hatchback known as the “Gran Turismo.” Additionally, a long-wheelbase sedan version is available exclusively in China.

For the F30/F31/F34 lineup, the coupe and convertible variants were produced until 2013. In 2014, these models were separated from the 3 Series, redesigned, and rebranded as the BMW 4 Series. At the same time, a new body style—the 3 Series Gran Turismo, a long-wheelbase hatchback—was introduced to the 3 Series lineup.

As automotive technology advances, people’s interest in innovative car lighting continues to grow. Alongside safety, there is a strong focus on uniqueness, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness. The evolution from halogen bulbs to LEDs and now OLEDs reflects this ongoing journey of innovation.

Then what is OLED? Vland lanuched the OLED Tail Lights for BMW 3-Series F30 F35 F80 Sedan 2012-2019 and BMW 4-series F32 F36 2014-2020 with Sequential Turn Signals and Dynamic Activate Lighting.

OLED Rear Light Cluster with Three-Dimensional Effect

Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) represent an innovative, efficient, and sustainable lighting technology that forms the foundation of the BMW Organic Light system. OLEDs consume very little power, contributing to lower vehicle CO2 emissions. Another eco-friendly advantage is that their production does not require costly rare earth metals. Unlike traditional LEDs, which emit light from a single point, OLEDs emit light evenly across their entire surface. These OLED elements are incredibly thin—just 1.4 millimeters thick—and their individual modules can be controlled separately, enabling a variety of dynamic lighting effects in the rear light clusters.

The VLAND Dragon Scales Concept Iconic Lights are based on OLED technology, which generates light through wafer-thin semiconducting layers of organic materials. For the first time, both the tail lights and rear turn signals incorporate OLEDs. The design of the illuminated surfaces creates a striking three-dimensional effect, while the slim profile of OLEDs allows for more compact and stylish lighting assemblies.

The L-shaped rear light clusters are as iconic and distinctive as the signature front lights of BMW. This “L” design element highlights the vehicle’s width, giving it a bold and dynamic presence that stands out both day and night. On current models, LED light strips and other lighting components accentuate the L-shape after dark, enhancing brand recognition. VLAND first introduced a rear light cluster featuring OLED technology with its Vision Future Luxury concept lighting, unveiled in November 2020. The VLAND Dragon Scales Concept Iconic Lights offers its own interpretation of this design, enhanced by a unique “glowing” effect. Its L-shaped OLED rear light cluster represents an evolution beyond traditional LED lighting, delivering a sharper, more three-dimensional, and visually striking appearance thanks to OLED technology.
